Showtime LLC Open Show - Mt. Hood Equestrian Center

Our first show of the year was on Jan. 26-27 at the Mt. Hood Equestrian Center.  This was an open show put on by https://www.facebook.com/ShowTimeLlc?fref=ts.  They do such a great job, have great prizes and are super fun to show with!  We always look forward to their shows.

Kerry and Lola had their best showing ever in the Halter classes and received 1st place in their classes on day 2 of the show!

Also on day 2, the Showmanship patter included a forehand turn with a back up to the Judge.

Kerry and Lola handled this beautifully and were again rewarded with 1st place results!  Overall it was a great weekend of showing.

Kerry ended the weekend winning High Point Jr. Horse and received another gorgeous belt buckle!  She is starting to collect hardware like her Dad!

A lot of success, a few lessons learned and some things to work on for the next show.  And as always
we're really proud of both Kerry and Lola!

2012 Year-End Awards

There are any number of Paint horse clubs you can belong to.  These clubs host breed shows thoroughout the year and are sanctioned by the American Paint Horse Assoc. (APHA).  You are required to be a member of a club in order to participate in year-end awards etc.

We joined the Oregon Paint Horse Club for 2012 and they hosted the majority of the paint shows we attended in Albany, OR.  At their annual year-end awards brunch in December, Kerry was awareded the 13-Under High Point award!  It was really exciting and we are so proud of her!

On January 19th we went to Hood River, OR for the NW Coordinating Committee's year end awards banquet.  The NWCC is responsible for tracking all the show points earned by eligible competitors duriing the show season.  This was a large event and it was great to see and acknowledge the accomplishments of everyone we'd showed with all season.

Kerry received honors for Reserve Champion in both 13-Under and Novice Youth Western Pleasure.  Her best friend Karli was the 13-Under High Point Champion along with numerous Champion awards in individual catagories.  We are all proud of them and how they represented Ambition Performance Horses all year.  And now they can enjoy all the goodies they earned!

Lola Gets a Visit from the Dentist

Since Lola is a young horse, she is working through her baby teeth.  Horses teeth actually never stop growing.  They lose their baby teeth, but the permenant teeth that come in continuously grow and need attention by a vet to file them down.  This keeps the teeth from getting sharp and damaging their mouth and keeps the surfaces flat and even.

We knew Lola's teeth had been bothering her and she was due to have her teeth done.  So the vet came out to do her dental work.  As Kerry had continued to hold up her end of the bargain by getting straight A's in school and keeping up with her chores etc. we let her get out of school early to observe the process.

Here is the video she took of the whole thing.  It was pretty amazing!

Naughty Nags Open Show

A very cold weekend for a show in McMinnville, OR.  Even though this was fairly close to home, we decided to stay the night so we didn't have to be getting up quite so early.  Saturday was all English classes and unfortunately the turn-out was low.  There were apparently several large events going on in town and hotel rooms were full.  This meant many people who were coming from any real distance decided to only show on Sunday.

But regardless, Kerry and Lola were ready to go early Saturday morning.  It was very foggy and very cold but we had the stalls all decorated in our Ambition drapes and the Big Buddy heater going in the tack room.

Kerry had great rides today and came away with a number of blue ribbons in English!  The weekend is off to a great start!

Sunday was another very chilly day, though once the fog lifted the rain set in.  We definitely kept Starbucks busy this weekend!
And thank goodness for our propane heater to keep the tack room warm and cozy between classes!

The morning started out with Halter and Showmanship classes and then all the Western classes.  It was another great day of riding up until the last couple of classes.  Then Lola got a bit crabby and Kerry ended up in the dirt in the warm-up arena - no worse for wear and she even manage to keep her white hat from
getting dirty!

We knew that Lola's teeth had been bothering her and she was scheduled for a dental appointment.  But she definitely wasn't quite herself by the end of the weekend.  After she and Micheal had a "conversation" after Kerry came off, Kerry took her in one more class.  It was important for Lola to know her behavior wasn't okay and important for Kerry to get back on and remind her who was the boss.

Despite that small bump in the road at the end of the weekend, they finished out the show with another 13-Under High Point and Reserve High Point in the Green Horse catagory!  More show booty to take home!

With this being the last show of 2012, now its time to start looking ahead to 2013 and entering the next phase of Lola's training and Kerry's riding skills too.  In addition there will be the year-end awards banquets for both the Oregon Paint Horse Assoc. and the NW Coordinating Committee.  Can't wait to see how Kerry and Lola ended up for 2012 and all the exciting things they have in store for 2013!

Showtime Open Show

Another open show close to home at the Mt. Hood Equestrian center.  Kerry was aiming for her third buckle in the 13-Under catagory.

She and Lola have added the Halter class to their itinerary as they continue their path to competing in all the events.

The did very well, especially since it was an early class and it was COLD!  But as long as Kerry had Lola's squeezy bun wrapper in her hand, Lola looked  perky and ready to show!

Then it was on to a full weekend of English and Western classes.

Team Lola wrapped up the weekend with yet another 13-Under High Point award and a beautiful buckle for their success!

Time for a short break and then on to our last show
of the year next month.

Great job, Kerry and Lola!

Painted-N-Sterling Albany, OR

This was the last APHA show for the season and Kerry was going for the 13-and-under High Point. It would be her first time showing in the English pattern class in addition to her English Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship and Trail.  She would also be doing the Halter Mares class for the first time as it was required for High Point.

Great job in Showmanship!
All the stuff that goes with us
It was our first rain in almost 3 months and Friday was really wet, windy and chilly.  We lucked out though and Saturday was sunny and the rain held off until late Sunday afternoon.  Kerry and Lola had another great show weekend and did walk away with the High Point award in 13-and-under.  It was a great way to wrap-up their first season on the Paint circuit!  We are very proud of them both!  Here are some shots of the weekend.

Rhinestone Riders Open Show - Mt. Hood Equestrian Center

Its great having the Mt. Hood Equestrian Center just around the corner from the barn.  They have a number of open shows throughout the year which are fun and reasonably priced so Kerry and Lola can go in lots of classes.  Kerry had two goals; one was to win High Point at a show and the other was to win a belt buckle.

This was her first opportunity to go for both as the High Point prize was a belt buckle.  She was entered in both English and Western classes.

Trophies!!

Here are some of her best moments from the show!
